Richard MacManus of ReadWriteWeb wrote an interesting article last year about how current e-Government web trends are moving away from Portals or ‘one stop shops’ towards reusable web services.

A current example of web services in Government today is the Public Sector Directory. The PSD contains an authoritative list on NZ Government organisations contact information. Besides a web interface to search for contact information an XML feed is provided which can be used to ‘mash-up’ the information into other uses. For example it is being used in the recently refreshed http://newzealand.govt.nz site.
